Have you ever bought a brand new product that you’ve heard glorious things about but it’s failed harder than Paris Hilton’s music career?
This post is intended to help you steer clear of the products which simply don’t deliver, to help you save your time and cash. You’re welcome.
- Bobbi Brown Gel Liner
Initially, this worked really well for a winged liner, which is a difficult task on my eyes because I have a really shallow crease. Within a couple of weeks, however, it dried up and became impossible to use, despite my attempts to revive it.
2. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
This mascara consistently gets a good write up and I honestly don’t know why. It’s a cult classic and on so many lists of great mascaras which it doesn’t deserve. It’s cheap and you can tell. The wand it too short and it really struggles to create any volume. Avoid.
3. Benefit Coralista Blusher
I love Benefit and I use so many of their products, but Coralista… It’s a gorgeous colour with a beautiful gold shimmer but if you don’t have impeccable skin then I would avoid it. It’s shows every pore and amplifies any pimples or bumps on your cheeks.
4. Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow
I bought this eyeshadow in three different shades to give it a chance before I finally admitted defeat. My most recent shade, shown above, is by far the poorest. It isn’t well pigmented so the colour payoff is disappointing.
5. Benefit Bad Gal Lash
Unfortunately, another Benefit fail. The brush on Bad Gal Lash is just to damn big. This mascara was made for giants. Feels like you’re holding a wooden spoon up to your eye. It’s clumpy too. No no. Try Roller Lash instead, it’s a much better product.
6. Mac Cream Colour Base in ‘Shell’
I feel like this product doesn’t know what it is. It’s somewhere between a base and a blusher and a highlighter but it’s hella unflattering and pretty redundant in my opinion.
7. Benefit They’re Real Double The Lip Lipstick
I swear I love Benefit. But this lipstick doesn’t replace a good lipliner and lipstick combo. It’s a lipstick consistency so the liner part is blunt after the first use and you obviously can’t sharpen it. It’s a nice idea albeit a little gimmicky but after applying you’ll soon be reaching for your trusty MAC lipliner because you’ll wonder what the hell this lipstick actually achieved.
8. Guerlain M
I bought this while living in Madrid and I was really excited about it. This foundation is actually really nice, with a glowy finish. It’s simply too sheer. For good coverage, you need to build a couple of layers, but at £38 pounds for a 30ml bottle, it’s simply to expensive to use as liberally as you need to.
9. YSL Volume Effet Faux Cills Mascara
More recent YSL mascaras, like ‘Babydoll’ and ‘Shocking’, are much more successful than the ‘Faux Cills’. I have tried this mascara on numerous occasions and always found the consistency so thick that the bristles would end up stick down and together, to the extent that you simply can’t use it.
10. Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in ‘999 Matte’
Dior Rouge was dull, crusty and drying; everything a red lipstick shouldn’t be. I ended up giving it to my flatmate for his Halloween makeup.
